Boey, is he any good?

I got Boey yesterday and I’ve been including him in almost all battles. So, is he any good? How does he perform in tempest trials?

Let’s evaluate.

Boey’s stats:

I managed to get him to level 40 pretty quick via chain challenge. This is his default skills at 4 stars. This Boey has +Atk and -Res.

Pro:

  • Very high defense. He can take hits from melee units, bow and dagger users.
  • Low SP investment. His default skills are good enough to fight most units.

Con:

  • Slow. With his speed, he gets doubled by almost everyone.
  • Low resistance making him very weak against other mages.
  • It takes lots of time and setup to make use of his Gronnowl weapon

Is he any good? Yes! He’s a tank. A 5 stars Boey (with his default skills, Hp+3 seal, 3 adjacent allies and a speed buff) can take hits from any units but 1 without being knock out. He only lost to Sanaki.

If his adjacent allies have fortify res and spur res (5 extra res), then he lost to no one. He can tank anyone.

Tempest Trials:

Unfortunately, even though he’s good, it’s very hard to utilize him to the fullest in tempest trials. It takes times to setup to maximize his weapon damage. Basically, when using him, we need to place him where an enemy can attack him and place 3 allies next to him. Then after Boey takes hits from those enemies, he then retaliate to KO the enemies. As a result, I take huge hits on the speed bonus in tempest trials. My scores ranges between 500-580 with him in my main team. If speed is not a factor in tempest trials, Boey is a good enough.

So, to maximize my score, I am changing my strategy. I use the following work-in-progress horse emblem:

  • Cecilia
  • Xander
  • Priscilla
  • Ursulla

I use the team all the way to the last stage. At last stage, I defeat as many enemies as I can, leaving as few enemies as possible, then surrender or let enemy defeat this team and switch to my second team that include Boey. With this strategy, my score is 676. In order to get all rewards from tempest trials, I need about 13 runs per day.
