Aether Raids – The Vault of Heaven

The change in Fire Emblem Heroes Aether Raids mode is finally here – The Vault of Heaven. It’s something that many players talked about when it was announced. Now, that’s it’s here and the first season has just ended, I’m going to give my initial impression.

Overall, the change seems to be fine. It’s not as bad as I initially thought. Perhaps only few players figure out. We’ll have to wait a few more weeks to know for sure if the change is indeed good.

Initially, I thought it’s going to be really hard for any F2P-ers to be able to reach the highest new tier 38. It turned out that I managed to reach it even with the blunder I made and the defense lost. I lost lift for 4 days out of the 7 days. I actually were quite surprised at the result. I wonder how it is and let’s do a little bit of math:

16 games per season
190 score per game with correct bonus heroes and blessings

Total score from offense is 3,040. We just need to score 2,800 to reach tier 38. This means we have 240 buffer, assuming we don’t have any merge on any of the mythic heroes.

By this time, many F2P-ers have merged mythic heroes, including me. Though I don’t have that many like some well known F2P-ers, I have just enough. I have a total of 5 additional light mythic heroes (+4 Peony and +1 Mila). For astra season, I only have +1 Naga and +1 Altina. Each additional mythic hero translate to 16 extra buffer. So, for light season, I have another 80 buffer on top of the 240 buffer for a total of 320 buffer.

That’s the main reason why I managed to get to the highest tier 38. Basically, if we’re lucky in summoning and have the right mythic hero, we should be able to get to tier 38 as long as we don’t do too many mistakes.

I did many mistakes in the very 1st season:

  • I missed too many pots that caused me a game. So, I played only 15 games rather than 16 games (7 double games and 1 normal game).
  • My defense was abysmal. I managed to get 3 days without losing lift even though I lost the defense (other players gave up when they lost 1 hero)

If you don’t have the mythic heroes, then perhaps it’s going to be a lot harder to reach tier 38. So, I guess the right strategy now if you want to reach the highest tier in aether raids is to save your orbs,  summon on the mythic banners only and get those mythic heroes.

I did this for since late 2019. However, I still failed to get Freyja and Plumeria. Most of my mythic heroes are single copy or low merge count. I’m not as lucky as those well known F2P-ers who have +10 Eirs and +10 Naga. Hopefully this year I’ll be lucky enough in my summoning session to be able to +10 one or more legendary/mythic heroes.

BTW, I also managed to reach the tier 38 on Astra season.
