It’s September already and 2020 will be gone soon. Since the first Covid-19 news until now, we’ve been in this situation for more than 6 months. And we still don’t know if we ever get back to normal again.
Anyway, what’s new with Fire Emblem Heroes. In the last few months, Intelligent Systems introduced a few things that players appreciate: the trait fruit (IV change system). This new item allows players to change the IV of a particular hero to any IV of their choice. I can finally get rid of those -Atk heroes and switch them to +Atk or +Spd. This new addition really help lessen the resentment/disappointment feeling with summoning new heroes. At least now, we don’t have to get stuck with those bad IV. We just have to pay a bit with trait fruit and the issue is fixed.
Trait fruit resource is very limited though. According to the current resource distribution plan, we can get approximately 50 trait fruits in a month, depending on tier. So, it’ll take at least a couple months to change the IV. It’ll take longer for lower tier players. As a player, I wish the resources is not as limited as it is. But, this is Intelligent Systems. I don’t expect them to be that generous as I think this new feature will definitely have negative effect to their bottom line sales. Prior to the announcement for this feature, when players summon heroes, we can get 1 of the many IV variations. Typically, players want to avoid heroes with -Atk or -Spd. Then players try to get at least 2 copies to get rid of the flaw. So, it requires a lot more orbs to get 2 of the same heroes. With this, players just need 1 copy of the hero and use trait fruits to change the IV if they want to.
There’s going to be a new Phalanx mode in the next few days that will have fruit as the reward. I don’t really know if it’s going to be a good mode or not. Based on the announcement, it doesn’t look that exciting.
I finally get the chance to try out the spark system they introduced earlier this year. I have to say that I really appreciate the spark feature. It’s like a safety net. I don’t really have to worry about not getting the hero I want. I tried it with the CYL4 heroes banner. I spent 135 orbs on that banner. Because of the spark feature, I’m guaranteed to get at least 1 focus hero of my choice. Then, any pity broken or luck heroes I can get along the way. Though my luck wasn’t the best, I was able to get Dimitri, Nagi, Ranulf and Edelgard (from spark). 4 exclusive heroes with 135 orbs + tickets.
So, after the bad decision IS made earlier this year, it seems that they are trying to fix and turn things around. Changes they made in the last few months seem to be what the players asked for. Is it enough, though? How will it affect the longevity of this game? Take a look at this estimated revenue in 億 chart. If they cannot turn things around, it’s likely that revenue will fall below 1 億 some time in 2022. Will they shut down this game if revenue falls below 1億 ? We can only wait and see.
