The Spooky Festival. One of the best ways to earn money in Hypixel Skyblock. If done well, one can earn over $8,000,000 coins in the one hour that the Spooky Festival is active. It used to be much higher, but in recent times, as more and more candy is put into the economy, the less it’s worth.
What happens during the Spooky Festival?
The Spooky Festival is an event that takes place in Hypixel Skyblock in Autumn 29 – Autumn 31. It lasts for 1 hour (3 in-game days). You can check when this will happen next in the Event Calendar located in the Skyblock Menu Nether Star.
In the Hub, next to the bank, you can find the Fear Mongerer Shop where you can buy certain items in exchange for candies. The Fear Mongerer Shop has a wide variety of items, ranging from Magic Find potions to Life Steal IV books.
During the duration of the Spooky Festival, mob kills on any of the Public Islands have a chance to drop green or purple candies.
You’re competing with the entire Skyblock playerbase to earn the most amount of points during the duration of the event. Each green candy you get is worth 1 point, while each purple candy you get is worth 5 points.
The Spooky Festival is quite RNG-dependant, but with good skill, practice, and knowledge one can score consistently well and earn tons of money during the Spooky Festival.
What Rewards Can I get for Placing High on the Leaderboards?
You can earn a ton of great rewards during Spooky Festival. Notably, if you score in the top 250, you can earn a Vampirism VI book (about $4,000,000 coins worth). If you score above 2,400 candies, you can get a Skeleton Horse Pet (Legendary), in addition to $1,000,000 coins as a prize. Getting 2,000 points, but under 2,400, will earn you a free Vampire Mask, and $500,000 coins.
Furthermore, in order to place high on the leaderboards, you must have gotten a ton of candy drops. Selling those will also earn you a lot of money, ranging from $2,000,000-$3,000,000, maybe more if you score as high as we did.
Misleading Reward System
The reward menu is misleading, especially with the following:
If you got over 2,000 points, but not in the top 250, then you cannot claim the Vampirism VI book. This is misleading because it says you can get the Vampirism VI book, even though you can’t. Most players are upset that they didn’t get the rewards as advertised.
How the coin rewards work is that it just takes the reward that gives you the most coins and gives you that many coins. For example, if you score 2,401 points and are rank 60, then you will get $1,000,000 coins, because the Point coin rewards are higher than the Ranking coin rewards.
Instead, the rewards are as follows:
Ranking | Rewards |
1*-50 | Golden Treat Vampirism VI Book Spooky Disk Spooky Pie $200,000 Coins |
51-250 | Vampirism VI Book Spooky Disk Spooky Pie $100,000 Coins |
251-2,000 | Spooky Disk Spooky Pie $50,000 Coins |
2,001-10,000 | Spooky Pie $25,000 Coins |
*Technically, this is from 11-50 listed in-game, but the top 50 are always way higher than 2,400 points.
Additionally, the points rewards are as follows:
Points | Additional Rewards |
2,400~ | Skeleton Horse Pet (Legendary) Vampire Mask $1,000,000 Coins |
2,000-2,399 | Vampire Mask $500,000 Coins |
For example, if you get 2,100 candies and are ranked 400, then you will get a Vampire Mask, Spooky Disk, Spooky Pie, and $500,000 Coins. Again, it chooses the highest coin rewards you’re available for.
Here, we scored more than 2,400 points. However, we weren’t in the top 250 to receive the Vampirism 6 book.
When you claim the Skeleton Horse Pet reward, it’s automatically put into your pet inventory.
Heads Up With Being In The Top 10
If you get up here, you will be bombarded by newer players asking you what strategy you used, and basically you’ll get spammed with party invites and direct messages. I would highly advise you turn off friend requests, messages, and party invites temporarily if you find yourself here.
As you can see here, we placed in the top 10.
What Equipment do I Need?
You don’t need any special equipment to participate in the Spooky Festival. Some examples of places you can kill mobs to earn candies are in the Deep Caverns, the Blazing Fortress, or in the End.
But if you want to place high, you will definitely need the following:
- Bat Person Armor Set
- Bat Pet (Epic)
- Runaan’s Bow
- Jingle Bells
- Splash
Buying the Bat Person set is highly worth it. It drastically increases your candy output, and it’s relatively cheap at around $3,000,000 coins. You can earn that all back and more with 1 Vampirism VI Book.
Candy drops are be affected by Magic Find, so if you’re truly tryharding, then you’ll want to put the Renowned Reforge on your Bat Person set, along with putting the Lucky Clover on your Bat Pet. Use sky.lea.moe to check the people in the top 10, if you want to check out what gear they’re using.
Important note: As of the Skyblock version 0.9.2, candy drops are no longer affected by Magic Find. This means that you no longer need to put Renowned on your Bat Person set, nor do you need to put the Lucky Clover on your lv 100 bat pet.
We use an Epic Bat Pet because it requires less xp to level up than a legendary one. Additionally, the Bat Person full set bonus grants fall-damage immunity, making the Legendary effect of the Bat Pet useless.
A Runaan’s bow is recommended for killing Wolves and the Night Respawning Skeletons. You need to make sure you can one-shot the Wolves in the Hub ruins.
And we need a Jingle Bells so you can gather the Night Respawning Skeletons more efficiently.
You’ll want a splash for the Magic Find boost. If anything, it’ll allow you to have an increased chance of a wolf talisman. The other potion effects are nice too because you can do much more damage, in case you’re on the weaker side.
I wrote a guide on how to leech splashes here. What I recommend is getting that splash a few hours in advance, with a parrot. The parrot makes it so that the splash lasts for just over 1h 20m. So, I recommend logging in 15-20 minutes before Spooky begins to prepare.
What Strategy Should I Use?
There is a wide variety of strategies. Obviously, some are better than others.
There’s some luck involved, such as getting sabotaged, or having bad purple candy drop rates. Purple candies are worth 5x as much as green candy, so having bad RNG with the drops has a huge impact on your score.
Strategies That Are Not As Efficient
Hub Crypts – I find that I’m not able to get as many points as with the Skeletons and Wolves. Additionally, I find that many newer players end up coming here, so it’s less efficient because you have to share the mobs with them.
Spider’s Den – Top Of Nest – I find that standing at the top and spinning around in circles is extremely luck-based. The main problem I have with the Spider’s Den is that it’s so crowded, and with the amount of mob kills happening, the server just can’t keep up and gets extremely laggy. Additionally, some random person can just show up at the top as well, so you have to share the mob kills with them.
End Farming – If you are able to obtain a Private End Lobby, then you can farm mobs in the Dragon’s Nest or the Enderman outside. If not, like the majority of players, just kill as many things as possible. Use an Aspect of the End in order to take kills away from people. You have to use the Bat Person Set, so you’re not as fast as those people using Young Dragon Armor. Using this strategy, I was only able to get 1,650 points at best. In a filled end lobby, I usually get 1,200 to 1,400 candies.
The Best Strategies
There are two main “meta” strategies used at the moment. One involves Night-Respawning Skeletons in the Hub, and the other involves the Skeleton Jockeys in the Spider’s Den.
Spider’s Den – Bottom
I’ll discuss the Skeleton Jockey strategy first, because I don’t think it’s as good as the Night-Respawning Skeleton strategy.
How this works is that at the bottom of the main Spider mountain, there’s an area that has some bone rib cages. There, spider Jockeys Spawn. You want to kill the spiders from the Spider Jockey, so that the Skeleton on top stays and more Jockeys spawn. The basic principle is that these Skeletons don’t shoot arrows, but instead, shoot Silverfish. If you’re able to get a bunch of Skeletons stacked up, you can have a near-constant stream of Silverfish throughout the entire Spooky Festival duration.
From entering the Spider’s Den from the hub, head to the right and around to the back-right corner. The coordinates of the place is at -281 / 85 / -278. Kill the spider under the skeleton and another should spawn. You’ll want to unequip your intimidation talisman/ring/artifact so that the skeletons will start shooting the silverfish at you. Make sure your weapon you use to kill them doesn’t have Cleave on it. Use a rock pet to not take knockback when the silverfish hit you.
The biggest problem with this strategy is that well… it’s very inconsistent because other players are here to do the exact same thing. Since this is a well-known strategy for scoring well, there are some large groups of sabotagers who are hired to just lobby hop and ruin the hard work put into stacking them up by just killing all the skeletons. Additionally, the Spider’s Den lobbies are usually extremely laggy due to the amount of activity that’s happening. There are so many mobs being killed throughout that the server’s performance is horribly impacted. If you’re lucky enough to get a Private Spider’s Den lobby then this can work well.
Hub – Night Respawning Skeletons and Wolves
By far, this is the most consistent strategy for scoring high in Spooky. When done poorly, you can get at least 1,500 points. Done well, and with decent RNG, you can get over 3,000 points, and like us, hopefully achieve over 2,400 points for that free Skeleton Horse pet.
Preparation
Around 15 minutes before spooky festival starts, you need to start looking for an empty hub lobby. When Spooky Festival begins, there are almost 3,000 different hub lobbies available, up from the normal 800-900. You can see the current number of hub lobbies in the hub selector.Look for one where you’re the only one in it, or if someone else is in it, ask them if they’re using this strategy. Half the time, they’re doing the Crypts strategy, so the Skeletons and Wolves are free for you.
About 5 minutes before Spooky starts, you want to head over to the back of the hub, near the giant gate. (-10 / 72 / 160).
To get an early advantage, you need to round up the skeletons into 1-2 groups before spooky festival begins. With enough practice, you can bunch them up into groups before 11:00pm (clock on the sidebar).
Night Time
When attempting this strategy, make sure to fill your inventory with useless things, as you don’t want to pick up any bones. If you pick up the bones, the skeletons will respawn where they originally spawned. However, if the bones are left on the ground, they will respawn where the bone dropped. If you accidentally pick up a bone, dropping it back on the ground won’t do anything. Make sure to unequip your intimiation talisman/ring/artifact to help attract the skeletons towards you.
Grouping up the skeletons well is the biggest key to this strategy. Here are a few key observations I made with the skeletons:
- You have to be within 2-3 blocks for them to “aggro” onto you. They’ll take a few steps in your direction upon noticing you.
- The skeletons will quickly lose interest after taking a few steps. This is when you use the jingle bells.
- The Jingle Bells only attracts the skeletons that currently are not aggressive to you.
- Killing the skeletons after that will “reset” their aggro state, and upon respawning, will take a few steps in your direction if you’re close enough.
That’s the basic strategy of how to group up the skeletons well. Kill them once they’ve lost interest in you. When you’re using this strategy, you can only use the Jingle Bells every so often. I recommend holding an item that increases your Intelligence, such as the Bonzo Staff or the Spirit Sceptre in order for faster mana regeneration.
From 7pm – 6am, you’ll want to be farming these skeletons.
IF you get sabotaged, there’s really not much you can do. The sabotager will usually pick up the bones and kill the skeletons themselves, meaning you have to share the mob kills. Looking for a new hub is near-impossible, as you’ll waste so much time looking for an empty one. So, this is where RNG takes place, you have to get lucky as to not have anyone sabotage you. With around 3,000 different hubs, your chances of actually getting sabotaged aren’t very high, but still occasionally happens.
If you’re in a large guild, some people may sit in a hub as a “backup”, in case your hub gets sabotaged, which in that case, you can just ask them to warp you there.
Day Time
During the daytime, you want to be farming the Wolves in the Ruins. I recommend buying a Travel Scroll to the Hub Castle, if you’re MVP+. You can buy it from the auction house, or from the Lonely Philosopher NPC. This will save you about 10-15 seconds of grappling hook time to run back and forth.
Once in the Hub Castle, you’ll want to stand up here and shoot your Runaan’s bow in circles until 6:40pm, where you’ll start grappling hooking back to farming skeletons. Remember to shoot outside of the outer walls too, as plenty of wolves spawn there as well, along with the inner courtyard below the upper table area.
Repeat this until spooky festival ends, and hopefully, you’ll do well.
