So, with BTD6 just being recently released, I’ve played a ton of it. I’m now rank 50 and have played almost every map in the game with the exception of the expert maps.
I’ve noticed that in this game, Round 63, 76, and 68 are much harder than in the original BTD5. I hypothesized that certain towers got nerfed, so I decided to do some testing. Let’s investigate the pierce of certain high-popping power towers, which include the glaive ricochet boomerang and the bomb tower.
Note: my method of testing the pierce of all towers mentioned in this post are through the sandbox mode. I set the spacing of the bloons to 0 and the count to 300, and I would send one red bloon, which would send 300 of them on top of each other. With BTD5, I use sandbox mode with regrow farms. Note that I did not test out Bloons Monkey City or Bloons TD Battles.
Boomerang
In BTD5, the 3-0 Glaive Ricochet boomerang has a pierce of 101 bloons.
However, in BTD6, the 3-0-0 boomerang has a pierce of 50 bloons, which can be upgraded to 80 bloons with monkey knowledge.
Therefore, the BTD6 boomerang is not as good as the BTD5 boomerang.
Bomb Tower
In BTD5, the bomb tower 0-0 was able to pop 40 bloons per shot.
The 0-1 bomb tower was able to pop 50 bloons per shot.
The 0-2 bomb tower was able to pop 55 bloons per shot
The 2-0 bomb tower was able to pop 46 bloons per shot.
However, in BTD6, the 0-0-0 cannon is now only able to pop 18 bloons per shot.
The 1-0-0 cannon is able to pop 28 bloons per shot, and
the 2-0-0 cannon can pop 28 bloons @ 2 layers each.
The 3-0-0 cannon can pop 48 bloons @ 2 layers each.
I couldn’t effectively test out the cluster bombs cannons, since those are too hard to calculate. However, this shows that the pierce of the cannons in BTD6 are slightly less than those in BTD5.
This is a drastic decrease in the amount of pops one is able to achieve in BTD6. The 0-1 bomb tower in BTD5 is almost equivalent to a 3-0-0 cannon, negating the fact that the 3-0-0 cannon is able to pop 2 layers of bloons.
Note that numbers used in this blog post came from myself testing things out in the sandbox mode. I did not use the BTD wiki or any other outside sources.
